Toppings were proud to host North West Connections for a networking session on virtual and Augmented reality.

North West Connections is a collective of businesses in the North West with the aim of supporting one another in business and developing new contacts, and is led by Kate Watson from CMLW Consulting. Kate is an IT consultant and trainer and last week’s session was a focus on Virtual and Augmented reality.

These sessions are invaluable to someone like myself.  No matter how much you try to keep up to date with the progress of IT, there is no substitute to talking to people in the know and getting the views of people across a range of industries.

Not only did Kate give a great introduction to the capabilities of the technologies out there and how it is being applied in the workplace already, but we also discussed possible uses and risks of this and other technology in our own workplaces.

There was a real sense that technology is moving at a quicker pace than people realise. Whether there will be a big uptake in its use and when that will be remains to be seen. It is however, important for businesses to make sure that they are aware of the new technologies out there and whether they can offer you a competitive advantage.

As accountants we know that client’s expectations are changing and that we need keep pace with the demands, as do all businesses out there.

I’m looking forward to the next meeting to see what else I can learn!
